RSE and PSHE
From September 2020, with full implementation delayed until the summer term of 2021, all primary schools have been required by the government to teach Relationships and Health Education. Relationships Education aims to support children in developing positive, healthy and safe relationships, whether with family and friends or through online interactions. Health Education helps children to make informed decisions about their physical and emotional wellbeing and equips them with the knowledge to seek appropriate support for themselves or others when needed.
At William Murdoch Primary School, we believe that children learn best when they feel safe, valued and understood. Our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curriculum supports pupils’ wellbeing, helping them to build positive relationships, develop confidence and make healthy choices as they grow. We provide an age-appropriate PSHE and RSE curriculum that promotes respect and supports children’s personal development. Our curriculum is regularly reviewed to ensure full coverage of the statutory Relationships Education objectives.
To help parents and carers better understand how RSE is taught at William Murdoch, we have developed a range of supporting resources, including a video that explores and clarifies common misconceptions surrounding RSE in schools. All resources are available in this section of the website and include an overview of lesson content for each year group, alongside a helpful government guide for parents.
